The Best of Both Worlds

Snap-in dentures—also known as implant-retained overdentures—offer a powerful middle ground for patients who want stability and affordability. These aren’t the loose, clunky dentures of the past. Anchored to 2–4 dental implants in the lower jaw, they snap into place for a secure, confident fit—no adhesives, no slipping.

If you’re tired of dentures that float, rub, or fall out when you laugh or eat, this may be your solution.

FAQs Snap-In Implant Dentures

2-4 dental implants are placed in the lower jawbone and allowed to heal for 3 months. During this healing phase, a patient is able to wear a conventional (temporary) denture to maintain their smile and chewing ability. After the 3 month implant healing phase, attachments are placed onto the dental implants and the snap-in dentures are fabricated to snap into these attachments.

On average, Snap-in dentures last 10-15 years with proper home care and maintenance. As the underlying bone below the gum tissue can slightly change over time, we recommend a reline (or rebase) of your snap-in dentures every 3-5 years to maximize comfort and retention.

Just like regular dentures, Snap-in Implants dentures should be cleaned daily with a soft bristled toothbrush or cloth using denture cleaner or hand soap. They should not be cleaned with a firm-bristled toothbrush or conventional toothpaste. Taking your Snap-in implants dentures out to sleep allows your gum tissue to stay healthy while soaking the dentures in water overnight will help maintain the integrity of the dentures.

While Snap-in Implant dentures are a big step up from conventional dentures, they are a step below All-on-4 screwed in teeth. This is due to the fact that you will always notice a small amount of movement of your Snap-in Implant dentures when eating and more of your gum tissue needs to be covered compared to All-on-4 teeth.

Depending on the amount of teeth requiring extraction, you can have a minor amount of discomfort for the first 2-3 weeks following surgery. For patients that are already missing all of their teeth and only the implant placement is required, minor discomfort is normally to be expected for 1 week.

Yes, unfortunately we do not offer this option for upper teeth due to human anatomy. Lower jawbone is very dense and solid which works very well for Snap-in Implant dentures that are repeatedly taken in and out. Upper jawbone that is softer and more porous is not ideal for this solution. At Carolina Implants, we only want to offer options that will provide patients with long-term success.
